Good Week For Sure!

Dear Readers,

This has been a very exciting week. Besides having two more mid terms (Pretty sure I did well on them) we have had some exciting basketball games. For us guys we were eliminated in the conference tournament, however out women’s team did not seem to face the same fate. Our lady Kohawks won the Conference tournament and are headed to the NCAA Tournament! It was packed in Eby Field House for the championship game yesterday and I could not believe how many students and alumni came out for the special event. It’s nice to see these girls succeed and hopefully they take home another trophy in a few weeks! For me my basketball journey has come to an end for the year and it’s now time to prepare for golf season!

On another note, I was able to attend the staff bonding event for the Armstrong/Douglas Residence Life Staff. We went out to eat at Perkins which was a fun time but was not as much fun as our trip to Planet X. Planet X is a Laser tag sort of place and although we were unable to play laser tag we did get to play mini golf! That was something I really enjoyed and was different then the everyday activities I participate in at Coe.

There are a lot of cool things like this that students do at Coe. Typically I like to go to different places to eat. Last weekend I was able to go out with a few of my buddies to Cold Stone and Genghis Grill! I have never been to that place before but I hear that it is similar to Hu Hot if you have ever been there. I personally like to compare it to Mongolian Barbeque (one of my favorites) if you have been lucky enough to visit that establishment.

WHAT WILL TODAY BRING

Dear Readers,
This has been a bitter sweet week. I began this week very excited being able to hangout with friends and I am pretty sure I did well on my midterm in my History of Modern China class. Along with that the weather is really starting to warm up which is great. However I got a little sick yesterday and that was kind of crappy. Another good thing was that I was able to quickly get in touch with the nurse at Coe this morning who gave me a lot of things that I could do to take care of my sore throat. I was pretty relieved after that and feel ten times better after that but I am still not 100 percent yet hopefully by tomorrow morning.

This week has also been going by pretty quick and I felt pretty productive. I had two papers due early this week and finished both in time and was proud of them both. My classes have still been holding my attention which is a good thing.
I have also received a phone interview for an internship I am really excited about for next Monday. I will start preparing myself for this interview as the week goes on and look forward to telling you things went well.
Well I have been chatting with my family a lot this week which is nice. I enjoy giving them updates on what is going on in my life as well as seeing how things are back home in Michigan, especially since I don’t get to go home that often. It’s not that bad that I don’t get to go home that often since I really do feel at home hear at Coe with such a good group of friends.

Already Thinking About Summer

Dear Readers,
Do you guys have summer plans? Because I do! I really have been thinking about my summer options over this past week. Although it is February it’s about that time for me to figure out what I my going to do for this summer. Last summer I decided to stick around Coe which was pretty sweet. I really enjoyed being able to see the things that occur during the summer. I thought that the campus would be extremely empty but I was surprised to see all of the activities that went on.

During this past summer I was lucky enough to live in the New Apartments as a first year student. I was pretty excited about that, and I was also excited that I was able to live with a few of my good buddies, However this summer I have had the opportunity to apply for a few internships else where I really would like to be at Coe again. I guess I am starting to get all summer like because it is suppose to warm up outside pretty soon! The sun has already been shining nice and bright and it keeps me in a pleasant mood. I am however a fan of the month of February even though it’s cold outside it’s a good month. Its black history month! Coe does a lot for cultural events from putting on plays in Dows theatre and offering fun history facts. Intramural soccer is also right around the corner! That is pretty exciting for me because I play soccer here at Coe and it will be nice to finally get to play again. Along with some good old golf as well!

Other than those things this week has been very relaxed. Besides having a basketball game yesterday I had a presentation Tuesday in my History of Modern China class that I think I did pretty well on. Next week should be very buy though I have two papers that are due as well as a mid-term exam in my History of Modern China class. I have another basketball game this Sunday as well maybe I will snap a photo or two on the bus ride there that way you guys can see what being a college basketball player is all about.

Snow is Great

Dear Readers,

Snow can make an average week a great week. This week was looking like it was going to be a busy one for me. I had a few papers on my agenda to get done by the Thursday and Friday of this week and that alone was going to be just enough to put a damper on my fun time. However I was given a gift that can only come in the winter months at a place like Iowa. It began to snow and snow a lot! It made me feel like a little kid again to know that it was a strong chance that class would be canceled for the next day which it was!

The good thing about this snow day was not all the students on campus running around making snow angels or anything like that but the good thing was how understanding the Professors here at Coe are about this sort of thing. Both of my papers were pushed back which somehow gave me more motivation to complete them both this week anyway which is beside the point. It was nice to know that I could just take it easy this week if I wanted to and enjoy the winter wonderland outside.

Along with the snow also came another basketball game against our rivals Cornell College. I will not spend too much time talking about this game but we won and we won by a large margin which was nice. It was also nice to see so many people out at our game even though the weather was so bad; I guess that just goes to show that we have some hardcore fans here at Coe.

Well if I must say I am sad about one thing this week though and that is the fact that I will not be able to attend the midnight movie this weekend. Here at Coe our student activities committee pays for any student who wants to go to the midnight movie that they are sponsoring at the local movie theater. This Friday’s movie is No Strings Attached, I have no clue what the movie is about but it is nice to have the opportunity to attend one for free with a lot of other Coe Students.

I would just like to let you all know that I have another basketball game this Saturday and it is a road game which should be fun. I have not had a road game in awhile. Other than that I will keep it simple I have a quote and fact for you but this week’s fact is Coe related! If you did not know Coe College was founded in 1851 by Daniel Coe and Coe College claims the shortest name of any American institution of higher education. A long But Good Week!

Dear Readers,

I have had one long week. It was not a bad week by any means but it was pretty long. I had a few Basketball games this week both at Coe. They were reserve games so I didn’t expect to get a large turnout of spectators. I was surprised to see the amount of support the students at Coe provided for a reserve basketball game. I guess we have a solid amount of school pride here which is a good thing for sure.

As far as some other things go I have had the opportunity this week to meet with all of my advisors for my internship here at Coe. I was surprised at how simple and easy Coe made it for me to get all of my stuff together to set up this internship. This semester I will be working in a few different departments of higher education here at Coe which is something that I think is pretty sweet. There are not too many academic institutions that are as personable as Coe is and that’s something I am glad to be a part of.

Hopefully I continue to have fun this week. So far I don’t have much to complain about. I really have enjoyed the classes that I selected this semester. I am pretty sure that my class schedule turned out so great because of the help I got from my advisors.  Even though you are only allowed to have one or two official advisors I feel like I have three. When I first got to Coe as a freshman my FYS (First Year Seminar) professor was my advisor and he still continues to be. However since neither of my majors or my minor was in his disciple of expertise I decided to start meeting with two other professors here at Coe as well all of which were very welcoming.

Well on another note I am excited about spring break and being able to take a trip with a lot of people on campus who are interested in volunteering like I am. It is nice to know that Coe helps provide spring break trips that allow students to give back. The added bonus is that I have the opportunity to go places I have never been this will be my first time ever going to Atlanta so I am pretty pumped about that.

Loving Life Like Always

Dear Readers,

This has been a pretty enjoyable week for me. I want to first let you guys know that I did not go snowboarding this week which is kind of sad but it’s alright since it has been pretty cold outside anyways. However I did really enjoy a few of my classes which surprised me a bit. One of my favorite classes this semester is probably my African American Literature class. We have just started reading a book by Chester Himes “If He Hollers Let Him Go” which I find quite interesting. Other than that I have not had too much homework which is always a good thing, just been doing a bit of reading.

So I have a few basketball updates for you all. If you have not been following our team you probably should! We are pretty good this year, as of right now we are second in the conference. Although we lost both our varsity and reserve game yesterday we still have our heads held high.

Alright well I must say that despite not going snowboarding or winning my basketball game I am still loving life like always. That is just a saying of mine that I typically find myself using. Life is good I have just been enjoying the lack of homework and the company of good friends and also playing a little bit of xbox in my free time. I had to cut back a lot though since school started.  

I recently have been watching a lot of movies and checking out some random quotes and facts. I figured that I would share one of both with you guys every week. My random fact of the week comes from http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~bingbin/ the fact is: If you have 3 quarters, 4 dimes, and 4 pennies, you have $1.19. You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar. Also my random quote of the week is from Elbert Hubbard, he said "The best way to prepare for life is to begin to live."  And finally I would like to leave you guys with a good movie to watch with either your friend’s family or by yourself if you find yourself to be bored. The movie of the week took me a lot of time to pick. I typically get about four movies in a week I would say so it’s not always going to be easy for me to pick. This week’s recommended movie is the Social Network, it was a pretty good movie that requires a lot of attention which is not too hard to do since it’s a pretty good movie. I was fortunate enough to be able to watch this movie with a few of my buddies.

Excited to Share

Dear readers,

I am so glad that I have been given the chance to share with you all my life here at Coe College. I would love to start you guys off with a little recap of my break which I must say was probably a little different then most other students.

I am a basketball player here at Coe College which pretty much means I did not get to spend a lot of time back in my hometown Southfield, Michigan. However I would say that I was able to spend my entire break with “family”. I was able to go home for about six days out of the three week break and visit family and friends that I had not seen in a while, but after returning to Coe to prepare for basketball games I realized that I would be able to spend time with my “Coe family”.

Since I have been at Coe I have made so many close friends that I might as well consider them family. I have been given the opportunity to play basketball which granted me the opportunity to be a part of the Coe basketball family. Since I am on the topic of basketball I would just like to say that we are doing pretty good this year. We are ten and four overall with one of those loses coming from a division one team. I would say that this year's team is much improved over last years. We actually played a game last night against a non conference opponent and came away with a victory. Although it was a two hour bus ride it was alright since we are always given pizza on the late return trip. Pizza is my favorite!

Another great experience I would like to share with you all is that I sort of became a hardcore gamer over break which I don't if that is a good thing or not only time will tell. Over winter break I was able to spend sometime with a few good buddies of mine Ankit and Joel we decided it would be a good idea to bring in the New year with some non stop gaming action. I have just recently purchased the nex xbox 360 which I think is pretty sweet and my mom was generous enough to purchase the new call of duty black ops game for me when I went home. Long story short us three guys probably spent around twenty seven hours straight playing that game with a little hour nap in between. My sleep schedule has been a tap bit off ever since but I think it was worth it. Really got good at the game and was a relaxing way to enjoy part of my break.

Well now I do not feel like I should keep up to much of your time reading my blog so I will just say a few more things. I plan to have a pretty good semester hanging out with a few friends who will graduate this may which is sort of bitter sweet. I also would like to say that I am looking forward to telling you more about my classes this semester. I am taking African American Literature, United States History II, Women in America, and the History of Modern China along with an Internship. I will give you all a big update on these things in a few days along with letting you know how sports are going and a secret snow boarding trip I' m planing to attend on the 20^th of this month. I have never been snow boarding so that will be an adventure.
